I found this on Design*Sponge this morning! It is crazy how someone can do this!

Those alphabet letters are all carved out of the pencil’s lead!

My favorite is the Key!

This must take a lot of patience!

Sketchbook Project: Sketchbook received!

I got my sketchbook in the mail!

I planned to take a picture of it as soon as it arrived but I forgot of course! I couldn’t wait to start sketching in it! Last night I set up in bed and started on it.

Got my pens all ready to go!

Each sketchbook has its own barcode….after you mail it back in you can keep track of whats going on with it online!

For example- you can gets updates when people check it out!

You had to choose a theme to help get you started. I chose “A day in the life.” I plan to make it a kind of journal where I talk about what I did on a certain date and draw pictures that correspond with it. Also I thought about doing some comic style drawings of my perception of what other animals, plants, and people’s days are like…

I started on the cover….

I have until January 15th to finish. I think that will be enough time but I do wish I had ordered it sooner. The more time you have the better.

I plan to keep taking pictures and updating you on the status of the sketchbook project!

Sketchbook Project 2011

I had never heard of the sketchbook project before until today when I was reading Geninne’s Art Blog. (I love her work) She does great bird paintings! Link to her blog below:

You sign up and then a sketchbook is sent to you! You fill it with all your sketches and then mail it back in Jan 2011!

Thousands of sketchbooks will be exhibited at galleries and museums as they make their way on tour across the country.

After the tour, all sketchbooks will enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be barcoded and available for the public to view.

Anyone – from anywhere in the world – can be a part of the project!

I think I am going to sign up! You have until Oct 31st! Halloween!

This is pretty much what I look like after a long painting session. Paint all over my legs, arms, hands…how does it get there? I’m really not sure…

But this is not paint…its a tattoo! I can’t get over how much it looks EXACTLY like paint splatter and brush strokes! This has to be hard to re-create! If I am ever in NYC I think I might have to make an appointment!

Summer reading

I just bought some books that I have been wanting to read for a while. Now I have some airplane reading material for that long flight to Hawaii!

I have read quite a bit about Alex the african grey before. This was one smart bird!

I don’t know much about this book but when I was listening to the author talk about it, it was really interesting…just how simple things we do like memorizing a list of numbers can effect what kind of food we choose to eat. If your brain has to work harder to memorize a longer list of numbers you are more likely to choose a dessert that is worse for you!

I remember learing about HeLa cells in my genetics class in college. Know I can learn more about the actual person who those immortal cells came from.

I heard about all three of these books while listening to npr. They sounded pretty interesting! Lets hope they don’t disappoint!

Its times like these that I wish wore a watch! Because I just found the neatest watches by May 28th on Etsy.

I like the fact that they have an elastic wristband. Seems like it would be pretty comfortable.

Do people still wear watches? Because I always just glance at my computer screen for the time and then when I am away from it I always use my cell phone… But I think these watches would be cute anyway just as an accessory!
